Supermarket

This page is primarily for the new vegetarian€¦ the following will be a list of GOOD vegetarian food (catered to the vegan / vegetarian needs).  It includes fake meat as well as other foods.

All this food can be found in markets like Whole Foods, places like Albertson€™s and Safeway have a limited variety, though Safeway is increasing its selections.

FAKE MEAT:  A word about fake meat: I was a big meat eater until 6 years ago when I realized killing animals for food was atrocious. Although my conscience voted for a vegetarian diet my taste buds wanted meat€¦ so here are some of my favorite fake meats.

The best (all vegan):

Salami: Yves

Baloney: Yves

Ground Beef: Gimmie Lean

Chicken: Veat Nuggets (Fry it)

Turkey:  Tofurky (make sure it is made by someone who knows how to cook or it turns out weird)

Turkey (deli slices): Tofurky Hickory Flavor

Hamburger€¦still needs work: Boca Burger Vegan Special  (If in India the McDonalds veg burger is great)

Hotdogs: Yves VeggieDogs (or TofuDogs depending on taste)

At Berkeley some of the chineese places offer great fake veg. chicken... a local place around you may also - IF YOU ARE IN BERKELEY TRY THE VEGE HOUSE ON UNIVERSITY AVE.

VEGETARIAN NON-FAKEMEAT:

Ice Cream: Rice Dream (Most are vegan)

Garden burger: Gardenburger brand €“ classic (not vegan) - cheese is animal renettless

Mac & Cheese (rennetless cheese): Amy€™s Frozen Dinners (not vegan) or Annies for dry

Mexican frozen dinners:  Between Amy€™s and Cedarlane

Chinese frozen dinners: Cedarlane

Frozen Pizzas: Cedarlane Foccia (like pizza withour sause)

Barbecue: Annie€™s BBQ (vegan)

Dairy: Clover Dairy products (CA), Organic Valley, and Horizon dairy products (obviously not vegan) but does not use animal rennet or animal enzymes

Cheese Puffs Chips:  Litle Bare (renettless but not vegan)

Sping Rolls: Ling Ling Vegetable Spring Rools

Sourdough bread: It may be hard to find a naturals food store with €śpure ingredients€ť but I think Sara Lee€™s Sourdough bread is veg

Cookies                                                                                                                                      a) Oreo Like: Newman€™s                                                                                                         b) Chocolate Chip: The Baking Co.    (make sure they say vegan)                                            c) Peanut Butter: The Baking Co. (make sure they say vegan)

Vegetarian cheese puffs: Little Bear

Yogurt: Clover, Brown Cow, and Organic Valley do not use gelatin but rather pectin  - Also if you live far away from a store that carries these, just get one, and from that make your own yogurt
